STABILITY!!!

(More blog entries from rob)

It looks as if my artistic ideals are going to be put to the test.

Happy days for me and my wife.  I have just accepted a job teaching theater at a new performing arts high school in the Bay Area.  This is fantastic on several fronts, not least of which is a return to the most beautiful area in the country (sorry Ben, Maine doesn't hold a candle...too many mosquitoes and too much mud).

Equally important to me is that I will be able to bring the joy of theater to young people, help them expand their horizons, and (gasp) learn.  All of this in an environment that will allow me to continue with greater focus on my writing, directing, and acting.

WOOO-HOOOO!!!

Wow!

That is some interesting stereotyping going on there, monsieur. West Oakland is indeed as you describe, but then again, so is South Boston, the Bronx, South Side Chicago, etc. Oakland, and the entire Bay Area for that matter is a bastion of liberalism, culture, and hot hippie chicks who smell of incense. What we have that Maine does not would be: 1. Several world-class theatrical institutions (ACT, Berk Rep, Cal Shakes, Magic Theater, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, etc.) 2. Sports teams of our own, not sloppy seconds from Massachussetts 3. One of the best transportation systems in the country 4. Robin Williams 5. Rice-a-Roni 6. Sourdough Bread 7. Diversity 8. Happiness 9. Culture 10. UC Berkeley Beat that list.

Au contraire. Wal-Mart is *not* hot Saturday Night action up this way. We have more taste than that.. bug zappers and Allen's Coffee Brandy for Saturday night. What's so hot in Oakland? For those of us that don't enjoy living out real-life scenes from GTA as the random pedestrian that gets mowed down by a drag-racing gangster, I mean.

Water Shortages and Oakland
by Rob on May 5th 2008, 10:44 am

Water Shortages aren't so much of a problem up by me, and Oakland does have a lot to offer, actually. The big seller over Maine, though is that the hot local action on a Saturday Night isn't Wal-Mart. Thank you! I'll be here all weekend, tip your waiter. No seriously, Maine is awesome, but for some reason I have extreme allergic reactions during the summer there. Winter, I love, though my wife does not, so there you go.

I'll take mosquitoes and mud over water shortages and proximity to Oakland, mon frere.
